Work Experience to Apprentice Engineer - Rowan Lees
Apex Computing appoints Rowan Lees to Apprentice Engineer following 3 years of voluntary work experience

Over the past 3 years Rowan has covered a range of different projects and jobs. These have ranged from installing new computers at schools and offices, assisting in installing new servers at customers and removing old ones, as well as managing and maintaining customers’ server backups, providing over-the-phone and remote support, and opening up servers and computers to fix them.

Rowan shares his background, studies and what he hopes to learn being an Apprentice for Apex Computing:

“I have always had a general interest in IT and tech – having grown up around people who are involved in IT Support, it has always been of interest to me.

I am currently studying towards a BSc(Hons) in Computer Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, which this year is made up of 4 units – Web Design and Development, Programming, Information Systems and Computer System Fundamentals. As such I have had experience with HTML and CSS, PHP, SQL and Java, amongst other things to do with the ins and outs of computing. I have recently undertaken a project to design and create a database in the style of a small company using Oracle SQL.

Further to becoming an Apprentice for Apex Computing, I hope to learn a lot of new skills, specifically regarding server management and networking. I look forward to working with the team of engineers to help develop my computing knowledge and understanding further.”

Apex Computing Services has a long-standing tradition of bringing apprentices into the company and training them to high standards to become part of the engineering team.
